Kirkpatrick Earns Endorsement of U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell

Prescott, AZ - Former State Representative Ann Kirkpatrick, the Democratic frontrunner in the race to represent Arizona's 1st Congressional District, won another crucial endorsement July 23, as U.S. Rep Harry Mitchell (D-Tempe) announced his enthusiastic support for her candidacy.

"I have seen Ann's work up-close at the State Legislature, and I know she has the toughness, dedication, and deep commitment to Arizona she needs to make a great member of Congress," said Rep. Mitchell. "I'm very proud to endorse her candidacy, and I will be very proud to work with her to change the way Washington works and do what is right for Arizona."

Rep. Mitchell, former Mayor of Tempe and member of the Arizona State Senate, is a former teacher, and, like Kirkpatrick, a Clean Election candidate. Serving in the state legislature at the same time, he and Kirkpatrick share a strong commitment to improving education, reducing our dependence on foreign oil by investing in alternative energy, and making sure Arizona gets its fair share of federal resources for its crumbling infrastructure.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of Representative Mitchell, one of the strongest voices in Congress for America's veterans and those who serve our country in uniform," said Kirkpatrick. "Like Harry, I am committed to changing the way Washington works. Together, we will be a powerful force to deliver on that change and to effectively serve the people of Arizona."

Mitchell's endorsement is the latest sign that momentum favors Kirkpatrick in one of the nation's most competitive races this election cycle. She was in Casa Grande last weekend opening her second campaign headquarters in the district and recently announced that she has raised over one million dollars since the beginning of the campaign from her strong grassroots network.

Kirkpatrick already touts an impressive list of endorsements, including Governor Janet Napolitano, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Tucson), former Navajo Nation president Dr. Peterson Zah, State Rep. Jack Brown, State Rep. Barbara McGuire, Arizona's teachers, firefighters, and members of the state's law enforcement, as well as local leaders like Prescott Mayor Jack Wilson.
